Obituary of Dolores M. Smith

Dolores M. Smith (Scharr)

 

Rochester: Passed away on May 22, 2020 at age 86.  Dorie was predeceased by her husband, Basil; her mother and father, Edward and Bernadine Scharr; brothers Edward, Richard and Joseph, and sister Eileen.  She is survived by her children Theresa Smith, Barbara (Joseph) Ross, Carol (Lewis) Smith, Elizabeth (John) Sullivan, James Smith, Susan (William) Hickok and Mark (Katherine) Smith, along with her grandchildren Rachel, Nicole, Daniel, Christine, Heather, Robert, Jeffrey, Morgan and Graham, and her two great grandchildren Aubrey and Makenna with another one on the way.  Dorie is also survived by her sister Kathleen Zink and brother John Scharr along with several nieces and nephews.

 

Dorie lived a very full and enriched life.  She was blessed with seven children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

 

She loved family outings, whether it be to the lake where many extended family members could be found, Sunday drives just to look at the scenery, down to the lake for ice cream, and many other simple get-togethers with brothers and sisters and their families for birthdays, holidays and sometimes just because she enjoyed it.  For many years, Dorie made an annual summer trip to Eagle Bay in the Adirondacks for family vacations with her children and grandchildren (along with a bear or two, black flies and several mosquitos).  Her favorite place to go was Disney World in Orlando.  She took several trips over the years with children, grandchildren and often with just her sister Kay and brother John.

 

Dorie worked for many years as a unit secretary for St. Mary’s and Unity Hospital and kept on working there even after she retired.  She made many friends there over the years, some of whom she kept in touch with even after her second retirement.

 

Due to the current circumstances with COVID-19, services and interment will be held privately.
