Betty Burke

Obituary of Betty J. Burke

Betty J. Burke, 91, a long-time resident of Henrietta, died on Saturday the 18th of July at Kirkhaven following a brief illness.

Born in 1928, she was raised in Avon, NY. She learned at an early age that she had a talent for playing the piano and started private study. She was delighted to play for programs at the Avon United Methodist Church and Avon High School, where she graduated in 1946. That same year she met a young Navy Seaman named Larry Burke on a blind date. They married in April 1948 and made their home in Avon until 1955 when they moved to Henrietta. Both were working at Eastman Kodak when they married, however, Betty left her job when they moved to Henrietta so she could raise their family. She began teaching piano privately and, over the years, built up quite a following of students. Once her children were in school, she began working as a part time clerk at the Henrietta Public Library. She was a fixture at the Front Desk until she retired!

Betty was an avid reader, loved playing the piano, enjoyed meeting friends for lunch and singing in the choir at Pinnacle Lutheran Church.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Larry. She is survived by her son, Michael (Betty) of San Diego, CA and daughter, Kelly Corke (David), of Ste. Genevieve, MO, 5 grandchildren, Christina, Andrew, Dan, Ben and Mariah and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pinnacle Lutheran Church, 250 Pinnacle Road, Rochester, NY 14623.
