Obituary of Robert P. Gruver

Robert P. (Pat) Gruver of Henrietta was reunited with his wife of 67 years, Dorothy P. Gruver, on August 4, 2020.  Bob, also known as Pat, was born March 17, 1931 in Rochester, NY, the son of Morris and Marion Gruver.

He was predeceased by Dorothy; sisters Shirley Maples and Lillian Boss; brothers-in-law Robert Maples and Ken Boss; and lifelong best friend William Wishart.

Survived by daughters Ellie (Gary) Doughty, Bobbie (Jerry) Bush, Peg (Bob) Mitchell; grandchildren, Peter (Amy) Castro, Lisa (Ben) Rockcastle, Jeremy (Bekah) Bush, Sabrina (Patrick) Robertson, Angela Mitchell; great grandchildren, Rachel, Allison and Meghan Castro, Caleb, Abby, Toby and Ian Rockcastle, Andy Bush, Cadence and Natalie Robertson; brother Morris (Doris) Gruver; sisters Jane (Dick) Lauer and Sandy (Tom McNeal) Gruver.

He was a loving Husband and Father and adored his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  He was a dedicated teacher who found this profession later in life and was beloved by his students. He was a skilled craftsman and loved to work with his hands and was always busy with his many projects.

Bob attended John Marshall High School in Rochester where he was a championship swimmer and then served three years in the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.  After discharge, he worked in sales and metal working before returning to school and graduating from MCC, SUNY Utica, and Nazareth College with his Masters Degree and becoming a Special Education teacher.  He retired from the Rochester City School District as a Home and Hospital teacher.  

Bob was active in the American Legion having served as Commander and Chaplain of the Ely Fagan Post in Henrietta and in the American Legion Honor Guard.  In retirement, he was active with his wife Dorothy in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) in raising money for Alzheimer research and held various positions in the local chapter including President.  He and Dorothy were Charter members of Victory Baptist Church in Henrietta.

Interment will be at the Pittsford Cemetery at the convenience of family.  

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later time.
