Obituary of Gail E. Baker
Gail E. Baker, 63 years young, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, co-worker, and friend passed away at home with her family by her side after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
Gail’s life revolved around her family and her family revolved around her. She enjoyed hikes in the woods and walks on the beach one foot in the water, looking for seashells and crocheting. Gail played the guitar, enjoying music from the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Dylan to Joni Mitchell, Katie Perry, Taylor Swift and Blondie. She was a fan of Doug Flutie when he was quarterback for the Bills. She was not a fan of beets, whole wheat bread, grape popsicles, ten-pins and wearing glasses. She also bowled, golfed and served as a Girl Scout leader. Born in East Rochester, her family moved to Webster where she graduated from Webster Thomas in 1967. She retired from the US Postal Service after 41 years of service in 2008.
Gail was predeceased by her parents Edward and Elizabeth Shuryn; she is survived by her loving husband David; children Michael (Michelle), Jill (Brian) Haefner, Victoria, David (Maribel); grandchildren Shauna, Barbie, Courtney, James and Jake; great granddaughter Kelsy; brother, Peter Shuryn; brother-in-law August Baker (Diana), Randy Deragon; sister-in-law Donna Baker; many beloved nieces and nephews, her cat Scooter and Hello Kitty. We wish to thank all the friends and relatives for all the support, cards and prayers. Gail’s grit and determination was an inspiration to us all. We wish to thank Dr. Francone and Dr. Shivagi Kothari at Strong Memorial Hospital and all the staff of Dr. Hezel at the Wilmot Cancer Center.
