Obituary of Leonard Bernard Stellpflug
On March 19, 2013 at age 82. Predeceased by his son Mark Stephen Stellpflug (3/22/62); siblings, Regina Raring and Mary Stellpflug. He is survived by his loving family; Wife, Judith (Nixa) Stellpflug; Children, Mike Stellpflug (Trudy), Karen Mandych (Alex), Joseph Stellpflug (David Martin), Linda Searing (Rob), Mary Stellpflug; Grandchildren, Bethany and Hannah Stellpflug, Peter, Mark, Katie, and Matthew Mandych, Megan and Andrew Searing; Siblings, Paul, John, Joseph, and Leo Stellpflug and Margaret Walton.
Born in Galesville, Wisconsin and raised on a dairy farm in Minnesota, Len attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Rochester, MN. He joined the US Navy from 1950 -1954. He used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, earning a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering. He married Judith Ann Nixa on September 6, 1958 and they moved to Rochester, NY in 1959 where he was an Engineer with Eastman Kodak Company. The Stellpflug “Funny Farm” in Rush, NY was the home where his five surviving children were raised. Len was proud of his three world records in growing giant Squash and Pumpkins, passing on the legacy to his sons and grandchildren. He was the master of pinecone wreaths, craft sales, and built his own home in Nunda, NY. He was a survivor of lymphoma in 2011, and died of cardiac complications peacefully surrounded by family at the Leo Center in Rochester, NY. He will be loved and missed by his family.
Family and friends are invited to call at Miller Funeral Homes (3325 Winton Road South) on Friday 4-7PM. Funeral Services will be celebrated in the Interfaith Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 12 NOON. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Visiting Nurse Hospice or the Leo Center for Caring.
