Obituary of Carl R. Van Ness

Passed away on Tuesday, July 2 after a lengthy illness. As he wished, he died at home. Carl was born in Sayre, PA on Saturday, July 31, 1937 to Claude W. and Anne Fairchild Van Ness of Towanda, PA. He attended school in Towanda, graduating from St. Agnes in 1955. St. Agnes remained important to him throughout his life and he never missed a reunion. Carl joined the Air Force in 1956 and became part of a unique group of men who remain friends to this day. Shortly after basic training he was chosen to go to the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey, California to learn the Russian language. He spent his military time as a Russian Linguist intercepting and transcribing Russian radio transmissions. Upon completion of his military service he returned to his beloved Towanda in 1961 and enrolled at Penn State to complete his degree in Business Administration majoring in accounting. In 1963 he married Angie Quatrini at The Church of the Epiphany in Sayre, PA. They marked their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 15, 2013. After graduation he moved his wife and infant daughter to Henrietta, NY and Carl went to work for the accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst in the new high rise known as Midtown Tower in Rochester, NY. In 1968 Carl became the Business Manager of the Temple Building in Rochester, a job he dearly loved for 20 years. In 1972 he and Angie formed the property maintenance company of Cavco Services Inc. which is now being managed by the second generation. Carl was predeceased by his parents Claude W. and Anne Fairchild Van Ness and an infant brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Angie; his daughter Roseann and her husband Tim Bruner of Fairport, NY; his son William and his partner Julie Harris of Scottsville, NY. Grandsons Daniel Van Ness and Nicholas Bruner; his granddaughter Grace Anne Van Ness; several cousins, nieces, nephews and Angie's siblings and their spouses. Calling hours will be at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY from 4 to 7 on Friday, July 5. His funeral Mass will be at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3318 E. Henrietta Road, Henrietta, NY at 11:00 Saturday morning July 6. Burial to follow at Ascension Garden Cemetery, 1900 Pinnacle Road, Henrietta, NY.
