Obituary of Sheau-Huo Chuang

Sheau-Huo Chuang Mrs. Chuang passed away peacefully on August 13, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. Born on February 4, 1922 in Jiangsu Province in China, Mrs. Chuang was the third child of her father Lu-Yuan Ting and mother Yue-e Yuan. She moved with her family to Beijing, China when she was 9 years of age. She graduated from Beijing Normal University with a major in history. Mrs. Chuang taught high school in Shanghai for a couple of years before moving to Hualien, Taiwan in the late 1940’s where she taught at Hualien Teachers College, Hualien Boys High School and Hualien Girls High School till her retirement in 1983. Always dedicated to her students, she received many awards for her outstanding services in the field of education and was honored by the Presidents of Taiwan. Following the passing of her late husband Chin-Fa Chuang, Mrs. Chuang immigrated to the U.S. in 1984 to be closer to her children. She helped taking care of her grandchildren when needed. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and travel. While living in California in her early 70’s, Mrs. Chuang challenged herself by taking English classes offered by adult education. In 2000, she became a naturalized U.S. citizen in Albany, New York. Mrs. Chuang was survived by her sister Lan-Huo Ting (of Shanghai, China), her children Chien-Shu Irene Chuang (of Albany, New York), Chien-Kuo Eric Chuang (of Rochester, New York), Jane-Lan Christy Chuang-Stein (of Kalamazoo, Michigan), Chien-Hua Cathy Chuang (of San Ramon, California), and their spouses. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Internment will be at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, California on September 7. The children of Mrs. Chuang would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Palliative Care Center at Strong Memorial Hospital for providing loving care to their late mother during the last days of her life.
