Obituary of George Edward Allen

After many years of heart problems, his kind and gentle heart finally stopped beating and Bud left us on October 29th, 2013 at 84 years of age. Bud was born in Rochester but raised in Elba, New York. He is predeceased by his mother Grace Bridge Allen Schuler, his father William Harold, and his step father Howard Schuler. his two brothers, William Harold, Jr. and Lyle Richard Allen. All three Allen sons were veterans of the U.S. Military. Bud leaves his beloved wife of 60 years Vinita (Nita), and his 4 children; Todd and wife Cindy, Tom and wife Nancy, Judy Foster and husband Richard, Tracey DiPrimo and husband Frank. Seven grandchildren remain; Brittany (Mark), Tyler (Marissa) and Colton, Katie (Blaine) and Matthew, Joseph and David, two great grandbabies, Addison and Grace Anne, and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Bud is a 6 year veteran of service to his country in the United States Coast Guard serving his entire time on the Great Lakes which included 2 tours aboard the icebreaker, U.S.C.G.C. Mackinaw. While stationed at Buffalo, he was instrumental in the rescue of 4 adults and 2 children when the engine of their cabin cruiser failed and the boat drifted into the Peace Bridge abutment in the Niagara River and was taking on water. Bud worked for 29 years with Rochester Telephone retiring as their Personnel Manager for Benefits and Safety and then he worked for 7 years as Personnel Manager for Pennant Products. For many years Bud volunteered, working with young people in church youth groups in Buffalo, and his church’s Acolyte group here. He founded Cub Scout Pack 481 in Henrietta and continued on as Cub Master and followed that by working with the Boy Scouts. For the last 11 of his active years, Bud worked with the cadets of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, retiring in 2007 as the unit commander holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was pleased to have some of his cadets choose to become Naval and Marine servicemen, and some attend the Naval Academy. Through his leadership abilities and kindness he touched the lives of hundreds of young people and adults alike. He also will be missed in another way. During his spare time Bud made wooden rocking horses for little tots, and, after building 200, he called the last one “Enough”. His horses are now being loved and rocked by a second generation of tots. His work in civic affairs included: President of the Rochester Telephone Pioneers, President Rochester Tipsters Club, The American Red Cross as associate Disaster Chairman, President of the Salesman Club, Member of the Chamber of Commerce, Member of the National Safety Council, Member of the Hypertension Committee of the Heart Association, Board Member Rochester Navy League, and Member of the N.Y. Safety Directors Association. Always a devout Christian, Bud was Vestry person and then Senior Warden for three terms at Christ Episcopal Church, Main at Locust streets in Pittsford, which included his service under the leadership of the beloved Reverend Edward E. Elliott. Family and friends are invited to call at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. (3325 Winton Road South) on THURSDAY (October 31, 2013) from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 9:00 PM.
