Obituary of Frances L. Costello

Frances L. Costello died on November 17 in Rochester, New York. She was born on August 21, 1923 in Rochester, New York and was the daughter of the late Raymond Francis Leinen and Frances Connor Leinen. She was the widow of Clarence V. Costello, Jr., who predeceased her in 1994, and the mother of five children: William Paul Costello of Highland, NY; Karen A. Costello of Rochester; Judith Daniel (Paul) of Kittery Point, ME; Joan L. Costello of Raleigh, NC who predeceased her in March 2011; and Patricia Leary (John) of Rochester. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Moore, sister-in-law Jeanne Leinen, plus many nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1940 and attended the College of New Rochelle where she completed her degree in business in 1944. After college she enlisted in the WAVES and served on active duty as a Communications Officer specializing in Cryptography during World War II. She made her home in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1955 until 2011, when she returned to Rochester. She worked in several different positions throughout her career including serving as the Manager of the Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center in Poughkeepsie, NY before joining the staff for the Astor Home for Children in 1978, serving as its first Development Director until her retirement in 1992. She was an active volunteer and was a longtime member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary in Poughkeepsie, NY. A member of the Dutchess Golf and Country Club for over 50 years, she was an avid golfer and bridge player. A mass of Catholic burial will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 AM at Peace of Christ Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church, 553 Humboldt Street, Rochester. Service Info

A mass of Catholic burial will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 AM at Peace of Christ Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church, 553 Humboldt Street, Rochester.

Interment

Interment will follow the mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
