Dear Pittsford Community,
My brother, Jim Murray: that’s how I, Patrick Murray, know that name. Not as “Jimmy”: it never was that way for me; I knew him as Jim. We only knew a few years between us as we grew in Pittsford, NY, siblings parented by James and Irene (Scranton) Murray. As I suppose many siblings experience, those years saw a loud mix of both brotherly love and disdain for each other. That experience only heightens my shock and disbelief that Jim is gone.
In life, I went my way to seek something other than the place of my upbringing -- not necessarily to seek fortune -- but simply to see things other than my home town. Jim found and built something precious in Pittsford, a beautiful family most importantly, yet also a network of wonderful friends I can only admire and love for their abundant dedication generosity of volunteerism. Many might say I volunteered, too, yet it was with the broader community when I enlisted in the Army. But it was my brother Jim who woke up in the wee hours with our sisters and brothers in the community to take care of the Pittsford with selfless devotion. Jim has volunteered all his life, yet for what sole compensation?—only the highest compensation of all: love from his family and community. What more could a real man ask for?
I express now my respect to the Pittsford Fire Department and community for the grace and honor they have shown to my brother, the firefighter known as Jimmy Murray, and his beautiful family. My presence in Pittsford these sad days will not be possible. For that I have the utmost regret. Yet I hope all know how proud I am of my brother, Jim Murray, and how grateful to all for remembering him in this profound and loving way.
Respectfully Yours,
Patrick Michael Murray

I have no words to describe how shocked and saddened I am at Jimmy's passing. When I saw him last month, I never imagined it would be the last time. I will treasure the nearly 25 years of friendship and memories from my friend and brother in the fire service. R.I.P. Jimmy. Love you, Brother.
