Obituary of William N. Fredenburg

William "Bill" Fredenburg, 83, of Henrietta, passed peacefully with his loving family by his side on January 30, 2014. Raised in Groveland, Bill graduated from RPI and served in the Army before moving to Henrietta and embarking on a 37 year career at the RG&E as an Electrical Engineer. He married the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" McKnight, in 1954 and together they raised their family, traveled the globe and created 60 years of glorious memories. A selfless man, Bill devoted himself to many volunteer and fraternal organizations. He followed his father's footsteps into community service by joining the Masons shortly after college and later expanded his participation by becoming a member of the Damascus Shrine and Rookh Lalla Grotto. As a committed member, Bill was Captain of the Color Guard, transported pediatric patients to the Shriners Hospital and volunteered at the VA Hospital. Always ready to help, he was one of the first to respond to a request to create the Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance Service. Bill continued to give back to his causes as a member of the Genesee Valley Ostomy Association, counseling and helping others with their challenges. His volunteerism came second only to his family. Devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren, Bill could often be seen playing basketball out front, swimming in the pool or reveling in a game of chase. Bill and Dot enjoyed many adventures and traveled the world including, Alaska, Europe and Australia, as well as their annual outing to Letchworth State Park. An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting with his sons and nephews or simply strolling through the woods with one of his dogs by his side. In his passing, Bill leaves behind a legacy of compassion, friendship, humor and love. Along with his loving wife Dot, Bill is survived by his sons, Mark (Diana), William "Tad" (Cathy); daughters Amy (Kris) Clark-Stasiw, Lyn (Kurt) Christensen; grandchildren, Sean Fredenburg and Lindsay (Matt) Lehr; Kelly, Danny and Jake Fredenburg; Megan and Hailey Clark; Todd, Annika and Geoff Christensen; sisters Nancy Saxton and Sue (Milton) Newton; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companions, Quincy and Dylan. The family would like to thank Susan Kline, the staff at St. John's Home Res 5 and Lifetime Care for their compassion and care.
