Obituary of Dorothy Larsen
Dorothy “Dotte” Larsen was born Dorothy Jean Schabert in Stamford, CT on December 17, 1924, daughter of John G. Schabert and Marie (Davies) Schabert.
She attended elementary schools in Connecticut and Rochester, graduating from West High School in Rochester and then from Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT.
In 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, William Larsen. They lived in Rhode Island while William was in the Navy and then moved to Hanover, NH and later to Rochester, where they spent the rest of their lives together.
After working for many years as a tireless homemaker and a loving mother of three, Dotte began traveling extensively, visiting all seven continents, including Antarctica. She had friends literally throughout the world and loved visiting and communicating with them.
She became a highly knowledgeable naturalist and writer, as well as a published wildlife photographer, and was a frequent presenter in local schools and to civic groups.
Dotte was well-known for her love of animals, both domestic and wild, and was a strong animal rights advocate. She was also an accomplished artist and craftsperson.
She loved baseball and was a loyal and avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and made several trips to Fenway Park.
Dotte is survived by her husband of 67 years, William, and three children: David (Kathy) of Wilmington, VT; Kris (Ken) Larsen of San Diego, CA; and Jan (Charlie) Larsen-Fendt of Webster, NY; grandchildren Christopher, Ben (Kelly), Michelle, Eric, and Kate (Alain).
Friends and acquaintances are invited to an informal service of remembrance on SUNDAY,(APRIL 27, 2014) at 3:00 PM in the Interfaith Chapel of Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc.
