Doug lived a full (albeit too short) life and certainly cared for and loved his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. His family is in our prayers.

I was surprised and saddened to hear of the loss of Doug. Unfortunately I was not able to attend his memorial service as we were running the Jump Rope for Heart in our school on this date. In Doug's memory I will be posting a donation to the American Heart Association through this event. Doug was a long time rival and respected competitor on the pool deck, and he will be missed by us in the Rochester and Niagara Swimming community. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Tobey Family,
Doug was my swim coach at Brighton High School (class of 1993). I would not be where I am today if not for Doug; I owe him a large debt of gratitude and I should have told him that. Yes he taught me how to swim well, which is still invaluable. But he taught me how to take the peak stresses of life when under the gun and turn it around to my advantage. There's no way to pay that back.
I wish I could attend his memorial today but I live in Salt Lake City. Doug Tobey really is the best and I'm lucky my path crossed briefly with his.
Sincerely,
Kevin Mueller

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. In recent months, I also have lost members of my family, unexpectedly, and I understand the grief and sorrow that you and your family are feeling at this time. In times of loss, many have found comfort in the pages of God's word, the Bible. In it we find the promise that we can be reunited with our loved ones (John 5:28,29). The Bible also tells us where this happy reunion will take place (Psalm 37:11,29). I hope that those promises may also comfort you and your family.

To your family, I am so sorry that you have lost this great man. He coached my daughter at SEAS and she loved him. He was tough because he cared and the kids knew that. I am so sorry for your loss. Meghan would attend if she were not living in Seattle.

DOUG WAS AN INCREDIBLE INFLUENCE ON ALL OF OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES. HE WAS AN EXCELLENT COACH AS WELL AS A MENTOR TO OUR TWO SONS AS THEY LEARNED THE CONSTRUCTION TRADE. HE WAS TIRELESS IN HIS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THEIR STROKES, THEIR SPEED, AND THEIR SUCCESSES. HE WAS SUCH A COLORFUL PERSONALITY IT IS DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE HIM IN ANY TRIBUTE. "TO LIVE IN HEARTS THAT LOVE IS NOT TO DIE." HE LIVES IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF ALL OF THOSE IN OUR FAMILY.

I am so truly sorry to hear of Doug's untimely passing. I will always remember with fondness the various coaching moments we've shared over the years. He was a good man (even when we disagreed) and will be missed greatly. I will be back at home in Albuquerque when his service is held, but please accept my condolences.
