I can see and hear it now, Bob and Sal discussing baseball with all the enthusiasim of true fans. I see Shirley also using the sign language for boring which she often used when Sal and I joined her and Bob for ball games.
I just returned yesterday after two weeks away and read about Bob's death. May he rest in peace.
My love and deep sympathy to John and family. His smile, his warmth, his intellect, his charm and joy of living will be missed.
Love and hugs,
Dolores

May your happy memories serve as a balm for your grief. My favorite is when he performed "You Gotta Have Heart" from "Damn Yankees!" in class. During my many years as an interpreter, I've seen Dr. Panera watching me, in my mind's eye, every time I've interpreted any kind of literature. I make adjustments until I feel his approval. I know I've done a good job. Take comfort in the knowledge that he touched innumerable lives, directly and indirectly, through his students. He lived an amazing life!

Bob,
You will be missed! I remember being in your class and was amazed how you were able to make a science fiction story come to real life in sign language/acting. Also, you gave me the inspiration for one of the questions that helped me win Miss NTID. And you really enjoyed the video of your wife playing the Japanese drums shortly before she died. And of course, I remember you at the Red Wings baseball games! Have fun being with your wife and playing baseball in heaven!

My condolences to Bob's family and friends. What a great man! I met him when he came to RIT and I was Director of Housing, working with the NTID students before the NTID residence halls were built. Bob was so wonderful in helping us to understand the special needs of the students, and in shaping the future of the College. His legacy is one of the deepest at RIT/NTID, manifested in all the students who followed and all the staff who were privileged to work with him. A true giant.

What a guy!
What accomplishments he made.
What a difference he made.
He made life better for so many people.
He seemed to love every minute of his life and his work.
He was the kind of person that when you met him, it was like you knew him forever and you never forgot him.
He was always willing to listen
He had a wonderful family, and you might say his extended family included hundreds, even thousands of kids.

Bob Panara was like a "Father" to me who loves baseball!! One of my best mentor and NTID/RIT professor I ever had. I'm glad I had the chance to "DEDICATE" (Tribute) Mime show at his theater on April 1, 2011.. He has seen my mime show several times in the past! Also he was hoping I would make it to the majors MLB while I was pitching for RIT baseball. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU and I WILL EDUCATE many people about you! Thank you BOB for everything you have done for me! Love "JJ" Jones - SVP '74
