Obituary of Reginald Burns Amory

Reginald Burns Amory Jr. 74, entered into rest on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. He was born September 19, 1939 in Canandaigua, New York to Reginald Burns Amory Sr. and Ida Amory Green. Reginald, Sonny as friends and family affectionately knew him, grew up in Rochester, NY with his Grandmother Gertrude Amory. He attended high school at Franklin High School in Rochester, NY. He served in the United States Coast Guard from February 19, 1957 to February 1, 1960 when he received his discharged achieving the rank of SN (E3). He then attended college at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY where he received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He was a member of the Rochester Fire Department from 1965 – 1970. He joined the Rochester Police Department in 1970 where he achieved the rank of Detective. He retired in March of 1986 after 16 years. After retirement Sonny worked various jobs at Wegmans, Brinks, and Xerox. Sonny married Phyllis White in November of 1959 in Rochester, NY. They were married for 35 years. Sonny enjoyed giving to others, fishing, camping, photography, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Sonny was preceded in death by his father Reginald Burns Amory Sr.; mother Ida Amory Green; grandmother, Gertrude Amory; step-mother Marion “Millie” Amory; sisters Carol Hines and Dorothy Simmons and favorite Aunt Sibby Jemison. Sonny is survived by his former spouse and life long friend, Phyllis Amory of Rochester, NY; his son Reginald B. (Nancy) Amory III of Rochester, NY; son Michael Amory of Lowell, AR; daughter Kimberly Amory of Charlotte, NC; son Steven Amory of Carmel, IN; brother, Peter Amory of Los Angeles, CA; his grandchildren Reginald B (Jessica) Amory IV, Gene Amory, Rhiannon Amory, Aleem Farooq, Ariana Knox, Blaire (Britney) Coats, Edward Amory, William Amory, Stephanie Amory, Phillip Amory, and his nieces and nephews and other relatives. A visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY from 4:00pm – 8:00pm Friday, July 25, 2014. A memorial service will be held at AME Zion Church, 549 Clarissa St. Rochester, NY at 10:00am, Saturday, July 26, 2014. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua, NY.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 25 Circle Street #102, Rochester, NY 14607.
