I just want Charlie's family to know that there are a lot of people at Central Maine Power who may never have met Charlie in person but feel they have lost a friend. I hope you are able to take comfort in the many wonderful memories you have of him, and in the abiding affection many others will always have for this remarkable fellow. Peace be with you all.

When Donna called me Monday and gave me the details on the service and where it was being held, I immediately recognized the address and a memory quickly came to mind. Those of you who knew Charlie well new that he liked hot sauce, the hotter the better. He would brag that there wasn’t a hot sauce that he couldn’t handle and that everyone else was wimp for not trying. Well just down the street here in Winton plaza there was a bar that advertised super hot wings. Of course Charlie had to try them and remember there wasn’t a hot sauce that he couldn’t handle. Well this day he met his match. HE tried the wings and he became teary eyed, then pale and then found himself on the floor. I don’t think he ever admitted that it was the sauce.
From the beginning Charlie was known to us and many others as CRAZY CHARLIE, as I am sure you can guess why. My mother and his mother are sisters and growing up it seemed like we were always at his house, our house or grandma Felton house. HE was 11 years older than me and I looked up to him.
He was like the older brother that I never had
He was the cool one who always did things and played with me
He was the cool one who always had a story and a joke
He was the cool one that had a car and would take me places or just for a ride
He was the cool one that made me promise not to tell mom and Aunt Virgie how fast he really drove
He was the cool one, the only hippie that I knew
He was the cool one who had a dune buggy and pictures of a car wreck that he so proudly survived
He was the cool one that was in the air force and would come home and tell me stories about being in Omaha Nebraska
He was the cool one that had his one-hour of fame on the radio as a guest disk jockey on WCMF
He was the cool one that would let me spend the nights at his apartment or house
He was the cool one that took me to my first rock concert
He was the cool one that I would always go to when I had girl problems
He was the cool one that my parents would go to when I had girl’s problems, especially the older ones.
He was the cool one that when I got older would go to talk to about things that were going on in my life.
And yes I too was a victim of his countless practical jokes while I lived with him and attended MCC and actual one time (I can not remember how or what I did but) I got him pretty good, he was even impressed with what I did. But that was short lived and soon after that he got me good. Now imagine me an 18-year-old college freshman at school and at some point during my day I discover that the flap to my underwear had been sewn shut. When I later returned to his house and looked through my dresser drawer I found that every single pair had that I owned been sewn shut. And there stood Charlie, unable to hide his guilt or his grin, saying What? I begged for a truce.
He will Always be the older brother that I never had

I just returned from a week away to find that my favorite operator will not be calling me anymore, and I'm stunned into speechlessness.
The only words I can find are to his family, those of whom he spoke with such love and affection, and who don't need me to tell them how great a loss they have experienced.
I'll always remember the pictures he sent of the trip to NYC he made with his wife so they could see their niece in a Broadway production. The radiation of pride and joy was palpable.
I was waiting for him to send me a revised manuscript he'd been working on -- guess it's not coming now, darn it.
He was a wonderful guy and my heart goes out to all those he loved so much. Blessings on you all.

Thank you to those who shared memories about my Dad and thank you for the prayers and thoughts.
To my Dad, thank you for all that you have taught me. I will always know that the number one rule is to always have fun. I will think of you when I get ice tea with extra lemon, put hot sauce on anything, do a puzzle in a puzzle book, or when I'm at the corner of 'Walk' and 'Don't Walk'. Words can't express how much I love you and miss you.

We first met Charlie when he was thirteen years old in the Penn Yan Junior High School. He would visit our classrooms over the years right up until our retirement. Then we reconnected at a Tea Party downtown Rochester. It was a joyful reunion. With Charlie there were no years of separation. Charlie was unrelenting in his devotion to his friends, loved ones, and country.
We think of Charlie as "The Rescuer", the one who would give his life to save another. He demonstrated that when he was a life guard with Dick at Red Jacket while he was still in high school. He saved the lives of those who were drowning, and remained humble.
Charlie served in the Air Force, again willing to give his life in order to save the country he loved. His heart remained devoted to protecting its freedoms by bravely speaking out for what he believed in. Charlie stood on his convictions.
The generous-hearted, good humored Charlie, who sought to rescue and protect others, could not rescue himself, but at the close of his life, he trusted in the only One, the "Great Rescuer", the Lord Jesus, to rescue him and give him eternal life. Those of us who loved him so much, have the blessed assurance, if we too have trusted the Lord as our Savior like Charlie did, of seeing him again, and being with him throughout all eternity. Knowing what Charlie knows now, in the presence of the Lord, I'm sure he would want that for all of us.
We do not "sorrow as others who have no hope" (I Thessalonians 4:13, 14) though we deeply miss Charlie. We are putting our confidence in God's Word that promises: "But as many as received Him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." (John 1:12) and " So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord...We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." (II Corinthians 5:6, 8)
Lovingly in Charlie's dear memory,
Dick and Anita Knieser

We are very disheartened over Charlie's death. His humor and pleasantness made every day happy. Charlie bent over backwards to help people. Politically, Charlie was a large cut above the political party zoo; he stood on honesty and his own beliefs and his own values, shedding the narrowness of political party labels and corruption. Charlie is God's great gain and is a great loss to us all much too early. God Bless your entire family.

He touched our lives, especially our children's. We have truly been blessed to have known Charlie. Try to take comfort knowing he is now in a good place and that he touched so many lives.

Charlie was the always the one who could turn a double entendre into a triple entendre, often before you could even finish. Most people can’t even understand those obscure references. Charlie was always there to pick up the slack and not only get it, but could explain the history behind it.

It was my pleasure to have been able to take you to see the new Star Trek movie for you're Birthday, even if Donna did make you pay for it. At least I was able to pay for dinner afterwards.
