Obituary of Margaret Swift

Margaret E. Swift (Maggie) of Rochester, NY, passed away early Thursday morning, November 6. She was 76. After a diagnosis of cancer, she was able to beautifully live her own memorial in the past few months as she spent time with, and received cards and calls from, numerous family and friends. She was known to regularly be heard saying “I am blessed” during this time. She is predeceased by her husband William A Swift (Bill), of 36yrs. Parents Rev. Clifford and Esther Bound, and a brother, Everett Bound. She is survived by her daughter, Rev. Jennifer Swift; Sister, Velma Sturgeon; Brother Lloyd Bound (Anne); in-laws & friends, Larry and Diane Maynard, Trisha Caldwell and Denny and Cindy Roach; Maggie was also loved by 10 nieces and nephews, along with their spouses, and 19 great nieces and nephews. However there are many more that lovingly referred to her as Sister, Mom, Aunt & even Grandma. Maggie was also honored with the titles of teacher, coach & director. She retired from the Rochester City School District in 1996 after a nearly 40 year career where she was dedicated to teaching and advocating for children with unique and special needs. She was also recognized as a 50 year member of Sweet Adelines International. She directed the Rochester Chorus, Image City Sound and the Chorus of the Genesee, the mens Barbershop counterpart. She was an instructor at several barbershop music & director's schools and coached extensively as well.
