Obituary of Jeanne S. Matthews

Age, 88, originally of Erie, PA, died, January 7, 2015 at the Episcopal Church Home. She was born in Erie, PA on December 2, 1926, daughter of the late Arthur and Mazie (Means) Southwick. She graduated from Academy High School in 1944 and attended Allegheny College. She was a member of the Kahkwa Club and the Maennerchor Club. She was President of the Junior League from 1964 to 1966. During her years as a member of the Junior League she was very active in the Drama Group, performing at local schools and other locations. She was a member of the Hamot Aid Society at Hamot Hospital in Erie volunteering at the Hospitality Shop. She was creative and artistic with a flare for decorating and enjoyed refinishing furniture. She was an avid golfer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Marlen (Chic) Matthews, Jr., who died in 1992, brothers, Edward and Arthur Southwick, and sister, Carly (Southwick) Williams. She is survived by her children Carly Anne Aymong (John) of Rochester, NY, Marlen Matthews III of Tampa Florida, and John Southwick Matthews (Kimiya) of St. Charles, IL and grandchildren, John M. Aymong, Jr. and Carly J. Matthews. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Services and interment will be held privately.
