Obituary of Richard E. Rickman

Richard (Dick) Rickman, born April 6, 1936, passed away February 15, 2015 at Strong Memorial Hospital of respiratory failure secondary to lymphoma. Predeceased by parents Arthur and Agatha Rickman, of Greece, NY, and his first wife, Mary Alice (Loomis) Rickman in 2004. He is survived by his second wife, Peggy (Finucane-McFarlane) Rickman, his brother, Robert (Sally) Rickman, his sons Richard (Sharon), and Rodney (Marie), and his grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Keri, Kathryn and Richard, all of New Jersey. In addition he leaves Peggy's children, Betsy (David Thurnherr), Darren (Sandy) McFarlane, and grandchildren, Allison and Cameron Thurnherr. He also leaves Peggy's siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him. Dick is also survived by his several loving nieces, a nephew and cousins. Dick was a graduate of Charlotte High School in Rochester, NY and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He retired as Comptroller of the Dresden Division of Ferro Corporation in Dresden, NY in 2001. Dick was a member of the Penn Yan School Board from 1996 to 2002. He was a Past President of the Yates County Art Council in Penn Yan. He also served as the Administrator of the Mary Loomis Rickman Scholarship through the Arts Council, awarded annually to deserving young artists in the Yates County area while he lived in Penn Yan, NY. Dick enjoyed gardening and maintained a beautiful yard at his former home on Keuka Lake; where his sons and families often visited from their homes in New Jersey. He continued his love of gardening at his and Peggy's current home in Pittsford. In Penn Yan, he enjoyed boating and was a fairly new devotee of golf - much to Peggy's delight. They were members of Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan until their move to Pittsford in 2012. He and Peggy were classmates at Charlotte High School in Rochester and re-met at their 50th high school reunion and married in 2006. A gentle giant, he lived with grace, dignity and quiet humor. These wonderful traits were exhibited to the very end of his life while in the company of his loving family. As per his wishes, there will be no formal funeral or service.
