Though we live in Columbus,OH, we had the pleasure of experiencing "Mama Rugg's" grace and joyful vitality, her wisdom and dauntless spirit, on her visits to the Bowlings. We also knew Dolly indirectly for many years through her daughter, Martha, as she tirelessly ministered to and supported numerous people, including each of our family. We are blessed to have known Dolly, and we stand with the Rugg Family in your sorrow.

Although I only met Dolly a little over a year ago, she had such a positive impact on me and on my family. My Mom is a resident of Heather Heights, and when she first moved there in July 2008, Dolly was so kind and welcoming. Whenever we visited my Mom, my daughters and I would look forward to seeing Dolly--always smiling and sweet. Dolly was quite the peacemaker among the residents of Heather Heights. On several occasions I saw her soothe ruffled tempers or encourage residents to get along with each other. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know Dolly. This lovely lady will be missed!

I remember Dolly. Twelve years ago I moved to Rochester and my first connection with Asbury was at the Storehouse. Dolly trained me how to care for the donations and guests. I remember the first person I assisted was a young girl who needed clothes after a house fire to attend her brother's funeral. Dolly was a gift to me and our community. My son, Eli, and I would often run into Dolly on East Ave. on our long stroller walks. I'm sorry I did not know about her celebration of life service. Know that with you, I celebrate Dolly! What a living legacy Dolly has in her cherished family and the Asbury Storehouse; thanks be to God.

I have such wonderful memories of Mrs. Rugg. This memory goes back 35 years when she taught Sunday school
at Asbury 1st. She always tried to make Sunday school fun and was very clever on how she taught us to love our God and church.
As I have grown into adulthood, Mrs. Rugg inspired me with her countless hours of time to the storehouse and those in need. She taught me how to fold the sheets (the storehouse way)that would get donated. Mrs. Rugg was very patient with me as I NEVER really got the folding of sheets mastered. I will always have a special place in my heart for Mrs. Rugg. She was surely one of a kind.
To her children, I am so sorry for your loss. You can be sure that she is looking down at you and saying how proud she was of all of you. Mrs. Rugg is now in heaven with Jim and happy to see him again.
May Peace be with you during this most difficult time.

We will remember Dolly for her warm and caring spirit which was a welcome gift to all people she met. Dolly had a great compassion for those in need, and inspired us all with her tireless efforts at the Asbury Storehouse, and elsewhere, to provide for the needy.
We send our love and sympathy to all of Dolly's family with a prayer that God will keep each of you in his tender care and grant you peace at this time of loss.

The day the Rugg Family moved into our neighborhood, was the day we met long lasting friends. Who could have known that my dad would be there for Mr. Rugg at his most important time of need. And then, in return, I called Mrs. Rugg when my dad fell and asked her to drop everything to "pretend she needed a cup of sugar" until mom or I could get home to him. She called my dad "Richard, The Lionhearted", and we called her an angel in disguise here on earth for us. She waited with Dad until I got home and he never knew I called her to watch over him. I never forgot her kindness and will never ever forget her. Rest in peace, Mrs. Rugg. I hope daddy was there with Mr. Rugg to welcome you home.

Our deepest condolences and warmest wishes to Martha, Dan, Amy and family. Dolly was truly my "2nd mother" and assisted with raising me, as my Mom had three little ones at the time (including Marilyn who was just 1 year old). Jim and Dolly lived "next door" and we were all an extended family. No wonder Martha and I got along so well!
So sorry that we cannot be there. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

May you find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish always, and strength in the companionship of those who share your loss.... I have learned never to underestimate the healing power we all have. It is always there to be used for the highest good. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) May it be a source of inner strength to know that there's a loving God watching over you, and that, throughout this time of need, He'll stay close by your side. I have fought the fine fight, I have run the course to the finish, I have observed the faith.-2Timothy 4:7. As for me, I will lie down that I may sleep; I shall certainly awake, for Jehovah himself keeps supporting me. -Psalms 3:5
