Obituary of Laurence Hursh
Laurence Hursh
Age 77, Wednesday May 13th, 2015, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Larry was the son of Elmer Hursh and Evelyn Rupp, of Rochester, NY. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen (Hamill) Hursh, sons Thomas (Lori) Hursh of Brewerton, NY, William (Ann) Hursh of Rochester, and Michael (Marissa) Hursh of Bath, NY, and by grandchildren Tyler and Kimberly Hursh of Brewerton, NY, Patricia and Tamara Hursh of Rochester, and Noah, Ethan, and Tabitha Hursh, of Bath. He is also survived by good friends Roch and Nan Whitman of Brighton, NY, cousin-in-law Bob (Maria) Hochreiter, of Rochester, NY, and many cousins. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Hursh, in 2013, and Rhea (Catherine) Hochreiter.
Larry was a graduate of Aquinas Institute (class of ’56) and St. John Fisher (class of ’60). Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and later served in the reserves with the 817 Evac Hospital (SMBL) in Webster, NY. He was a retiree of Bausch and Lomb, where he worked for 36 years as an engineer. He enjoyed getting together with other Bausch retirees as part of the Early Settlers club. He and Kathy were also active in the Twilighters, taking trips to various places. Larry and Kathy were members of St. Boniface Church, serving as Eucharistic Ministers. Their faith and their family were very important to them. Larry was on the board of directors of the St. Boniface Men’s club as well as Chairman of Spiritual Events. He held officer positions in both the Men’s Club and Twilighters and served as Head Chef for Ash Wednesday – Soupper. Larry was also an active member of the Genesee Valley Pond and Koi Club. He loved gardening and could be found on many a fine day tending his pond and his plants. Those he leaves behind will remember him as someone always eager to help others, and who maintained a positive attitude in the most difficult of circumstances, always putting others first. Even in failing health, he lovingly cared for Kathleen, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, for several years. He was someone you would be proud, and fortunate, to call father, friend, or neighbor.
Calling hours will be Friday, May 15th from 4-7 PM at Miller Funeral Home and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Rd S). Funeral services to be held Saturday, May 16th at 11:30 AM at St. Boniface Church (330 Gregory St. Click for a Map to Church). Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
