Obituary of Catherine Bernice Meehan
Catherine Bernice Long Meehan, 96, of Henrietta, NY died on December 10, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Eunice Agatha Knott Long and Francis Irving Long, Bernice was raised on a farm in St. Mary’s County, MD.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald James Meehan; brothers and sisters, Benedict Long, Francis Long, Nellie Hayden, Gladys Lambert, Joseph Long and Dolly Anderson; and grandsons Matthew O’Leyar and Patrick Meehan.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Rick McWilliams) O’Leyar of Henrietta; sons, William (Gail) Meehan of Albany, NY and Dennis (Sheila) Meehan of Holley, NY; grandchildren, Jonathan O’Leyar, Timothy O’Leyar, Mark O’Leyar, Branwen Meehan, Gwen Meehan and Jill Burke; five great grandchildren, especially Taylor Jackson; and sisters, Anita Russell of Leonardtown, MD and Estelle Bowles of Loveville, MD.
Bernice was a homemaker and worked at McCurdy’s Department Store. She volunteered at St. Peter’s Soup Kitchen, Red Cross and Henrietta Senior Citizens where she made many friends. Bernice was a devoted and active member of Guardian Angels Church. She was an avid seamstress and quilter and loved bowling with the Silver Stars Bowlers, rolling a 230 at the age of 82. She enjoyed baking and her piecrust was the best ever made.
Bernice cherished her friends and family and especially enjoyed annual visits from her sisters Nita and Estelle and weekly visits with Pat Tomkinson and Deacon Tony Mercadel.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brentland Woods Assisted Living and Episcopal Nursing Home who loved and cared for Bernice so well.
Family and friends are invited to call on SUNDAY, December 13th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South. Bernice’s Mass of Christian Burial will held on MONDAY, December 14th at 10AM at St. Marianne Cope Parish at Guardian Angels Church, 2061 East Henrietta Road (Click for a Map to Church). Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
