Obituary of Dorothy Gruver

Dorothy P. Gruver went to be with her Lord on December 12, 2015 at age 86. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children; Ellie (Gary) Doughty, Bobbie (Jerry) Bush, Peg (Bob) Mitchell; grandchildren, Peter (Amy) Castro, Lisa (Ben) Rockcastle, Jeremy (Bekah) Bush, Sabrina (Patrick) Robertson, Angela Mitchell; great grandchildren, Rachel, Allison and Meghan Castro, Caleb, Abby, Toby and Ian Rockcastle, Andy Bush, Cadence and Natalie Robertson; best friend Marion Wishart and her husband Bill (previously deceased). And many more extended family members and close friends including her beloved kitty "Mai". Dorothy was a skilled and dedicated nurse for over 50 years and also loved her retirement. During her career, she worked at Park Avenue Hospital, as a contract nurse and then served as Head Nurse at the Main Post Office. At Park Avenue Hospital, she was sent to Strong Memorial Hospital for six months for training and then returned to set up Park’s Cardiac Care Unit, During retirement, she was active in the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). She was chaplain of the area NARFE chapter, Vice President of the Northeast US Region, Alzheimer Chairwomen and a member of the National Alzheimer Committee. She was a Charter member of Victory Baptist Church in Henrietta and also a Member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to travel throughout the US and around the globe. She encouraged many people in their lives and careers and was particularly encouraging to women pursuing their goals, She and her husband, Bob also known as Pat, we married for 63 years and complemented each other while raising their three daughters. She was exceptionally dedicated and a blessing to her immediate and extended family.
