Obituary of Wade Orville Hemphill
Wade was born on August 27, 1917 and died on January 2, 2016. He married the one and only love of his life, Anna Shirley Edwards, on July 5, 1941. Their love and devotion to one another is a model for all who knew them, especially their children and grandchildren. Wade is survived by Anna, his son, Duane (Mary) Hemphill, his daughter, Donna (Frank) Murano, his grandson, Edward (Diane) Hemphill, his granddaughter, Rebecca (Lieutenant Colonel Todd) Benson, his granddaughter, Kathryn (Alberto) Murano Santos, and his great-grandchildren, Houston and Mackenzy Hemphill and Grant Benson.
A Captain in the Army during World War II, Wade was extremely proud of his service as well as all of our armed forces. He spent most of his professional life as a mechanical engineer at Corning Glass Works. He loved to golf.
Family was most important to Wade, as well as living every day to its fullest. Everyone will miss his intelligence, humor, devotion and charm.
A very special thanks for the loving care and years of service to all the staff at Fresenius Eastview Dialysis. You all gave us a decade to enjoy Wade we would not otherwise have had. Dr. Mohammed Rehmani’s gentle and vigilant care saved Wade many times. Dr. Philip Sheils, is “such a fine, solid man”. The Strong medical community took Wade under their wing and gave him the best care anyone could ever ask for, especially Dr. Charles Wadsworth, Dr. Supriya Mohile, Deb Bacon, Dr.Theodore Hirokawa, and Dr. Angelo Pedulla. Wade loved living at Glenmere Assisted Living, and every day talked about the “top shelf” staff who treated him and Anna like they were their own family.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Wade, his requests were all military related: Honor Flight Rochester (PO Box 23581, Rochester, NY 14692), which gave him the trip of his life, Wounded Warrior Project (P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675), which he strongly supported, and the Brian Schramm Scholarship (212 Harwood Circle, Rochester, NY14625), which his daughter began.
A memorial celebration of Wade’s life will be held at Brook-Lea Country Club (891 Pixley Road, Rochester, New York 14624) on March 19th at 12 NOON so all of his family and friends may be together with his spirit. Details will be published a few days prior to the celebration.
