Obituary of Mary Jane Pokora
Mary Jane (Balcerak) Pokora passed away in her home Saturday, February 13, 2016. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mary Jane was a lifelong educator and learner, and spent her life sharing that passion with others through her years at University of Rochester, Greece Central Schools, Pearson Education, Shore Educational Collaborative, MCC, and Rochester Challenger Learning Center.
Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, sewing, traveling, and studies. She was especially proud of earning her master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Colgate Divinity.
Predeceased by her father, John Balcerak, Mary Jane is survived by her husband, James Pokora; son, Michael (Rebecca); daughter Carolyn Place (Christopher); mother Helen Balcerak; brothers John and Daniel Balcerak; and sisters Joanne Lofthouse and Janet Hamilton.
We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, and her unwavering selflessness. She made a difference in the lives of many.
We invite you to join us and remember her life together on WEDNESDAY, February 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, (3325 Winton Road South Click Here For Map) with prayers at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on THURSDAY, February 18 at Spiritus Christi Church, (121 North Fitzhugh St, Rochester, NY Click Here For Map). Family and friends will gather for lunch and a celebration of life after the service.
