Obituary of Mary Jane Pokora

Mary Jane (Balcerak) Pokora passed away in her home Saturday, February 13, 2016. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family and friends. Mary Jane was a lifelong educator and learner, and spent her life sharing that passion with others through her years at University of Rochester, Greece Central Schools, Pearson Education, Shore Educational Collaborative, MCC, and Rochester Challenger Learning Center. Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, sewing, traveling, and studies. She was especially proud of earning her master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Colgate Divinity. Predeceased by her father, John Balcerak, Mary Jane is survived by her husband, James Pokora; son, Michael (Rebecca); daughter Carolyn Place (Christopher); mother Helen Balcerak; brothers John and Daniel Balcerak; and sisters Joanne Lofthouse and Janet Hamilton. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, and her unwavering selflessness. She made a difference in the lives of many.
