Obituary of Dorothy E. Cooligan
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Born May 25, 1922, Dorothy was the much-loved daughter of the late Chester & Ethel (Matthews) Cooligan. She graduated Salutatorian of her class from Manchester High School in 1939 and went on to earn both a Bachelors Degree from SUNY Geneseo and a Masters Degree from Columbia University. Dorothy was a teacher and Administrator for the Rochester City School District for 40 years. She was an educator of the highest order, guiding generations of children not just academically, but culturally, morally, socially, and spiritually as well. She was an active member of Brighton Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where she was ordained a Deacon and later served as an Elder.
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Dorothy Ann Liberati and nephew, Gregory (Lynne) Lush; her great nieces & nephews, Andrea (Michael) Record, David Liberati, Jeffrey (Allison) Liberati, Scott (Stacy) Liberati, Brent (Mary Ruth) Lush, Chayn Lush & Colby (Julie) Lush; and several great-great nieces & nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her sister & brother-in-law, Mildred & Reginald Lush, her nephew-in-law, Alfred Liberati and her dearest friend & fellow educator, Gertrude Mabee.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her nieces & nephews, whose lives she enriched in countless ways.
There are no calling hours, but a Celebration of this grand lady's life will be held at Brighton Presbyterian Church (1775 East Avenue Click To View Map), SATURDAY at 11 AM.
