Obituary of Angela M. DeBlase

DeBlase, Angela M. (Mazzo) "Nana" Pittsford: December 10, 2009. Surrounded by her children, our beloved matriarch, mother, and grandmother died peacefully at home the way she wished in Pittsford, NY, after a yearlong battle with cancer at the age of 71. Angela was born in Rochester, NY, on December 17, 1937, the oldest daughter of Joseph Salvatore Mazzo and Grace (Romano) Mazzo. Angela will forever be remembered by her five children as a strong, steadfast woman, a mother who nurtured and guided us with love, care and compassion. She brought great strength to our lives and raised her children as a team, with firmness, guidance, and all the love we could need. We are who we are today because of her, and for that we are grateful. Mom enjoyed all the times spent with her family, was so very proud of her children, and absolutely adored her four grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. She especially loved the holidays spent with us and the laughter and good food that were abundant at her table. She enjoyed serving guests iced tea on her front porch on a warm summer day, tending to her gardens and lawn, her daily cup of coffee, and had enormous pride in her beautiful and beloved Pittsford Village home. But most of all, she loved simply being with her family. To us kids, she was the most beautiful Mom in the world. She will be remembered as a woman with immense spirit and independence, who taught us how to live and how to die with grace and dignity. Angela is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph S. Mazzo and Grace (Romano) Mazzo. She is survived by her five children, Gina DeBlase, Grosse Pointe, MI., Kim (Bruce) Gilchrist, Pittsford, NY., Tracey DeBlase, Pittsford, NY., Fred (Laurie) DeBlase, Naples, NY., Kelly (Matthew) Klartich, Pittsford, NY. Her four grandchildren, Michelle Gilchrist, Michael Gilchrist, Jordan Morio and Matthew Morio. She is further survived by her sisters and brother, Sandy (Robert) Long, Rochester, NY., Marie (Richard) Wesley, Rochester, NY., Thomas (Jane) Mazzo, Rochester, NY., and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
