Obituary of Patricia A. McCabe
Patricia A McCabe (Winter)
Unexpectedly on April 28, 2016 at an age far too young. Predeceased by her father, Paul and mother, Mary (McCabe) who were in her thoughts, and guided her behaviors towards others every single day. Survived by her grateful soulmate of 27 years, Darryl Winter; the greatest treasure of her life daughter, Caitlin, brother, Mike (Catherine) McCabe; sister, Katy (Joe) Votava; sister, Claire (Gary) Skuse; and brother, Rob (Yvonne) McCabe. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many loving and real friends.
Patricia graduated from Kueka College in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 1985 Patricia completed her graduate work in nursing receiving her MS as a Pediatric Nurse Practioner. Patricia will always be remembered as a “damn” good nurse by all who worked with her. Patricia’s first love was to spend as much time as she could with her family and friends. She was a remarkable wife, an extraordinary mother, and worthy adversary to those who tried to push her buttons. She also enjoyed time on Seneca Lake, reading, travel, gardening, candy crush, and watching meaningful movies.
Friends may call on Friday, May, 6th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road South. Her funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 7th, at 1 PM at St Louis Church, 64 South Main Street, Pittsford. (Click for a Map to Church)
A Reflection on Patricia’s Life:
About Patricia McCabe: I was the most loving and caring mother/wife to ever walk the planet. I always made sure to take care of everyone else and to put others before myself. I was born in Elmira, NY on Christmas Day in 1955 to Paul and Mary (Mame). I was raised on Decker Ave with my 4 other siblings. I had an older brother Michael, older sister Katy, younger sister Claire, and younger brother Rob. It was quite the full household! I enjoyed cheerleading, among being very intelligent and studious during my high school years. I went to RIT for one year when I thought I wanted to be a marine biologist, but then I decided to go to Keuka College. I received my degree in nursing and began working in the Emergency Department in Rochester, NY at Strong Hospital. While working, I studied and received my masters in pediatric nursing. As a nurse practitioner, I worked in the NICU, pediatric neurology, a private practice, and then as a school nurse. I married the love of my life in 1992, named Darryl. We met at McGinnity’s after the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Rochester. I was Irish dancing in the parade, and he was marching as a firefighter. It was love ever since the day we met and we have been inseparable ever since. On Christmas day in 1993, I received the best birthday/Christmas present. I found out that I was pregnant! On August 30, 1994, I gave birth to my daughter Caitlin Mary. She has been the light of my life and means the world to me. My true job and calling in life was to be her mother. Nothing in the world made me happier. I have worked tirelessly to give her every opportunity. I love her more dearly than anything else on this planet. She graduates from Geneseo in two weeks with her bachelor’s degree. She is planning on starting in September at the University of Rochester for the accelerated nursing program. She wanted to follow in my footsteps of such a noble and wonderful profession. I know I will have the best seat in the house for her graduation ceremony. I enjoyed time on Seneca Lake, my favorite place on the planet where I get to enjoy amazing fresh food and my family. I also loved dogs, especially German Shepherds. We have had three dogs, Sam, Chief, and Coco. They have brought me a lot of joy in life. I loved to garden, read, and go for walks on nice days. I also loved to travel, but hated to fly. I was getting better at overcoming that fear. I loved to eat out, but hated using coupons every time like my husband insisted on. I also enjoyed the show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, watching the QVC, playing some candy crush saga, and sending lots of stickers over Facebook. I liked going to Dave Matthews concerts with my family, not to hear Dave, but to be with my family. I tried to have lunch at Wegmans once a week with my sister Claire because she kept me sane and good. I lived a very good and full life surrounded by many people who loved me so dearly. My smile, compassion, kindness, and unconditional love will be greatly missed.
