Obituary of Ann Barbash

Ann Barbash, born November 16th, 1937, died May 26th, 2016 at the Jewish Home in Brighton, following treatment for lung cancer. She is survived by Steven, her husband of 57 years, her son Micah Joel (Patricia) Barbash of State College, Pennsylvania, their son Daniel, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Drs. Marc and Babette Weksler of Tenafly, New Jersey, nieces and nephews Robert, Laurie Ann and Jeanette Harshbarger, and David Weksler and Jennifer Keller. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter J. Harshbarger and E. Kathryn Gates and a son Benjamin Alexander Barbash. A graduate of Huntington Joint Area High School, she studied nursing at Jefferson in Philadelphia and Bellevue in New York as well as art at Bridgeport University, in Paris and at the Art Students League in New York. A breeder of champion AKC German Shepherd Dogs since 1969, she became a licensed judge for the AKC in German Shepherds and other breeds. She gave numerous presentations on Shepherds in venues as far as Chicago and Los Angeles and served as the President of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Rochester as well as the AKC Delegate for the Genesee Valley Kennel Club. She was also the owner of the Cobblestore, an antiques shop featuring her “Tails of Yesteryear” animal art collection. A member of the Genesee Country Antique Dealers Association, she exhibited at shows from Cleveland to Boston to Florida. As per her wishes no formal services will be held. Friends are encouraged to honor her by continuing to live significant lives.
