Obituary of Fr. John P. Carriero

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Fr. Carriero graduated from Canisius High School and in August, 1950 entered the Society of Jesus at St. Andrew-on-Hudson, Poughkeepsie, NY. After pronouncing his first Vows, in August 1952, Fr. Carriero began his studies in the liberal arts and upon completion of them was assigned to Canisius High School; where for three years he taught Latin and English. After completing the required studies in theology, Fr. Carriero was ordained a priest on June 19, 1963. Having been awarded a Master of Arts Degree from Fordham University in 1966, Fr. Carriero began his 50 years of service as a loving and much beloved Guidance Counselor at McQuaid Jesuit. In addition to his ministry at McQuaid Jesuit, Fr. Carriero also served for many years as a Chaplain at Hillside Center and as Chaplain at the Monroe County jail. Fr. Carriero is survived by his sister-in-law, Catherine Carriero; his nephews, John and Nicholas, and their wives, Katya Rice and Diana Resasco; his nieces, Mary Carriero and Catherine Petrozzino, and their husbands, Richard Udewitz and Mark Petrozzino; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; and untold numbers of beloved friends. Fr. Carriero will lie in State at the McQuaid Jesuit Chapel (1800 So. Clinton Ave. Rochester, NY 14618) on Sunday, June 12th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 13th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. His Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14th at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (Rhinecliff & Imperial Drs. / Rochester, NY 14618). Interment in the Jesuit Cemetery at Auriesville, NY. Donations, in his memory, may be made to the Fr. John P. Carriero, S.J. Scholarship Fund at McQuaid Jesuit. For additional information on Fr.
