Arlene Hanley
Rochester: Passed away Saturday January 14, 2017 at age 92. Predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law. Survived by sons, Thomas (Carol), Robert (Lillian); daughter, Patricia (Robert Morris); six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
She grew up in Passaic, New Jersey, attended both Cornell and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and worked at Curtis-Wright during WWII. After raising 3 children she began working for the City School District in 1965 as a Para-professional for 28 years and then as Retirement Consultant with NYSUT for another 20 years. She helped form and was president of the Teacher's Aid Association of Rochester and received the 2001 Community Service Award from NYSUT and the national 2009 Retiree of the Year Award from AFT for her efforts. Arlene headed up the Sunday school program & served on the various boards of Immanuel Baptist Church. Playing tennis, bridge & doing crossword puzzles all brought her lots of enjoyment. Many Cub Scouts knew Arlene as she served as a Den Leader, Commissioner and Trainer. She was the proud recipient of the BSA Silver Fawn Award in 1972.
A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 815 Park Ave on June 3, 2017 at 1pm. PLEASE NOTE that parking will be available on both sides of Brunswick Street between East Avenue and Park Avenue.
