Eugene Robert Vogt
Eugene Robert Vogt was born in Rochester on April 14, 1921 to John William Vogt and Catherine Kreckel. He is known to his family as “Gene” and to friends as “Bob”. He served valiantly in World War II in the Army and was award a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Bob received his Bachelors Degree in Business from Niagara University.
Bob started his career with Ward Baking Company in New York City. He married Alice Dwyer on May 1, 1954 in Crestwood, NY. They made a home in Dobbs Ferry NY and had three children. The family moved home to Rochester, NY in 1965.
Bob will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith and his friends. He served as volunteer organist at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parrish for 25 years. Bob was the Director of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery for 25 years retiring at age 75. Bob went on to serve as a volunteer archivist for the Diocese of Rochester, making a remarkable contribution to the organization and content of the Archives.
The Landmark Society honored Bob for his commitment to historic preservation. In 1993 Bob set out to photograph churches, chapels and oratories for the Catholic Diocese of Rochester. As part of this unique project, he also documented the pipe organs that are still in use in many of these buildings. In the late 1990s, he also coordinated a major part of the Erie Canal Legacy book project for the Landmark Society, driving hundreds of miles throughout the state visiting canal communities. Bob loved music and was an active member of the American Organ Guild.
Bob is survived by his wonderful wife, Alice, his children Christian Leighton, Kimberly Vogt Bavali (husband Reza), Mark Vogt (wife Rebecca), his grandson Hayden and his sister Ann Lane. Bob lived a remarkable life and was well loved.
Bob's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church (601 Edgewood Avenue) on Saturday at 10:00 AM. (Click Here for Map to Church) Interment Private.
