Harland Thayer Jr.

Obituary of Harland E. Thayer Jr.

Joined his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 after a long battle with cancer at age 69. Survived by his wife, Carol; children Harland III (Cathy) Thayer, Shawn Thayer, Heather (Matt) Seeger, Kristine (John) Flannery, Adam (Cathleen) Bush; 6 grandchildren, Elise "Beegie", Sadie, Jack, Jace, Kian, and Sophia; siblings JoAnn Thayer, Bonnie (Dave) Allison, Robert (Roberta) Thayer; nieces and nephews and cousins. Harley was employed for 39 years at Eastman Kodak working in the professional paper division. He served in the U. S. Army 1966-68 receiving a purple heart in Vietnam. Harley was a former Fire Chief and 15 year veteran of the Genesee Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Henrietta. Harley enjoyed camping, skiing, and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband to his wife Carol for 31 years and an adoring "Gumpy" to his beautiful grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his humor, wit, smile, and infectious laugh. He loved life and fought a hard battle to remain with his family that meant so much. We were truly blessed to have had such a kind, caring, dedicated family man in our lives. He will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to call Sunday, February 5th from 1-5 PM at Miller Funeral Homes, Inc. (3325 Winton Road South). Mass will be held Monday, February 6th at 11:00 AM at St. Louis Church (64 S. Main Street, Pittsford). Interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Middle Road, Henrietta. Reception to follow at Ely-Fagan American Legion Post 1151, Middle Road, Henrietta, at approximately 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers (because Harley believed that every animal should have a good home) please consider a donation to the Rochester Animal Services, 184 Verona Street, 14608.
