Ron was born in Canandaigua, NY, October 30, 1943, the son of Robert Milton and Meryl VanDenbergh Hanley.
Mr. Hanley joined the USMC in 1962 after graduating from Canandaigua Academy in June of 1961. He served for 4 ½ years and then began working at Eastman Kodak in Rochester Data Processing in 1967. Mr. Hanley retired from IBM in 1997 after 30 years combined service at Kodak and IBM.
In 1998 Mr. Hanley dedicated his time on working on his family's genealogy as a hobby. This hobby soon turned into a full-time quest. Although he felt that there was a never-ending supply of family to be found, he was constantly striving to keep updated computer records supplied to various research locations where he was a member. He was a member of the Canandaigua Historical Society, East Bloomfield Museum, Sons of the American Revolution, and the SUVCW, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, and Victor Genealogical Society. His original work is compiled under the name, "A TREE TRUNK", and is distributed to Victor Free Library, Ontario County Archives in Hopewell, East Bloomfield Museum, and the Canandaigua Historical Museum. This was a two volume, 800-page book.
Mr. Hanley subsequently compiled and printed 14 volumes, a 10,776-page work of love with the same title. He continued his quest on an ADDENDUM until his death.
