Obituary of Daryl Lewis Wolf

Daryl Lewis Wolf, 58, died peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at his CDS Monarch group home in Fairport, NY surrounded by family, friends and caregivers after a brief struggle with brain cancer. Daryl was born April 28, 1959 in Rochester, NY. He is predeceased by his parents W. Lewis Wolf and Phyllis K. Wolf of Pittsford, NY and his brother Gregory A. Wolf of Canandaigua, NY. He leaves behind his brother Mark S. Wolf and his wife Donna R. Wolf of Woodbury, CT; his nephews Ryan J. Wolf and Evan T. Wolf, also of Woodbury, CT; his nieces, Dr. Lindsey L. Wolf, MD, Jamaica Plains, MA, and Chelsea Wolf Mascari, Lincoln, MA. He also leaves behind 3 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew, his Aunt, Shirley Kempshall and numerous cousins. Daryl was a kind, funny, gentle and loving soul who was born into this world with numerous disabilities including prenatal brain damage and Cerebral Palsy. Little did the world know that his life would have such a profound positive affect on so many people. His parents, Phyllis and Lewis Wolf, refused the doctors suggestions of potential institutionalization. Researching and engaging with potential directions they could take to help Daryl, and looking for significant long term improvements, they pursued a therapy called the Doman Delacato Method. Starting in 1966 Daryl's family, supported by countless volunteering friends and neighbors in the Rochester Area, enacted this therapy for 5 straight years, 365 days a year, from 8AM to 11PM. As the years passed, Daryl's cognitive and mobility capabilities improved, but it was evident to his parents that Daryl would always need a strong support structure throughout his life. Understanding Daryl's needs and recognizing there was no organization in existence that could provide a life-long home and support system for Daryl is what inspired Phyllis and Lewis Wolf, to form Continuing Developmental Services in 1977, now known as CDS Monarch (http://www.cdsmonarch.org/ ). CDS grew quickly, as did the demand for its services. Homes for individuals with special needs were added, opportunities to work were created and a systematic approach to provide all aspects of a fulfilling life became a reality. At the age of 27, in 1986, Daryl moved from his parent's home in Pittsford into a CDS Monarch group home in Fairport. He lived in his home at 14 Roxwell Court for 31 years and passed there. Daryl was a lifelong member of Boy Scout Troop 26, always looking forward to his next adventure and time at camp. Every 4th of July Daryl led the Oak Point Community Parade where he vacationed with his family. His favorite activity was listening to his radio and greeting people who would come to visit. Daryl Wolf loved people! He touched them through his gentle smile, his desire to give a hug or his big laugh. Daryl was always a presence in the room. His life made a profound and long lasting difference in thousands of other people's lives and he will be missed by all that have known him. A memorial service celebrating Daryl's life will be held at the Pittsford Presbyterian Church in Pittsford, NY on Saturday July 22, 2017 at 11:00AM with a reception to follow. Daryl's final resting place will be in White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wolf Foundation, which was established in support of the services offered by CDS Monarch, 860 Hard Road, Webster, NY 14580. http://www.thewolffoundation.org/
