Obituary of James Hassett

James L. Hassett, 73 of Bradford, PA., formerly of Herndon , Va, passed away quietly in Honeoye Falls, N.Y., August 10. Born June 19, 1943 the son of James A. and Helena F. Hassett, both deceased.

James is survived by Cynthia King-Hassett of Clearwater, Fl., son James Mathew Hassett (Dannielle) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Michael Todd Hassett of Clearwater, Fl., one sister Sheila Hassett of Henrietta, N.Y., and a brother Donald Hassett (Elizabeth) of Honeoye Falls, N.Y. and grandchildren Chase Hassett, Currie Hassett and niece Alisa Hassett.

A graduate of St. Bernard’s, class of 1961 and a talented artist and painter, Jim was also a serious outdoorsman and developed a passion for hunting and fishing the hills and streams around Bradford with his classmates. Following graduation from the Art Institute of Pittsburg he was employed for a short time at McCort Label Co. in Bradford as an artist until joining the U.S. Army. He honorably served two years as an illustrator at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.  He was recruited to the FBI as an illustrator where he was selected to design J. Edgar Hoover’s personal Christmas card. He formed Benchmark Associates, a design and advertising agency of Herndon, Va. with fellow art school graduates and FBI artists. He later worked in real estate and remodeling in Northern Virginia using his artistic talent and fine art skills in carving, painting, and illustrating to create hand crafted works for customers and family.
