Obituary of Jamie C. Swann

Scottsville - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at the early age of 64 at his home away from home, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida. He is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Irene Swann, and uncle, Anthony Swann. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Debra Swann (Davis), parents-in-law, Renwick and Ann Davis, his sisters Katheryn Walton and Jacqueline Stewart, and niece Kim Hickey. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 3rd at 11 AM with a reception immediately following the service at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY. Jamie was born January 19th, 1954 in a small house on Main Street, Scottsville. Appropriately, this location symbolizes the legacy he created through his many decades as a quality craftmanship. Upon graduating high school in 1972, Jamie joined Kodak, working at the Elmgrove plant. But Jamie's restless spirit soon chafed at the routine, and he soon went out on his own to be able to work with his hands and learn the skills of the construction trade from a very successful and accomplished friend and mentor. To obtain a union card, he ventured to Florida and began building hotels and condo's in Florida, often walking the high-rise steel without nets. Although he eventually returned to his roots in Scottsville, Jamie's love of Florida remained, and he subsequently vacationed in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea for over 30 years, building an enduring circle of friendships. Upon his return to Scottsville, Jamie bought his first house at 5 Main Street. He completely remodeled this single-family home into two apartments, for which the village awarded him a certificate for "most recently improved property." He subsequently purchased 2 more properties at 1 Main Street and 6 Rochester Street and in 1981-1982, he was awarded three more certificates for his workmanship from the village. Fired up by his successes, Jamie obtained his DBA and started his own general contractor business, Cygnet Construction. Cygnet, a baby swan, was his baby from the beginning. Working closely with many individuals and families, many of whom were his friends, he built multiple new homes throughout the area. Building new homes with his friends at his side were some of his happiest days, and gave him many years of memories filled with fun, accomplishment, and loving stories. From 1984 to the present day, he remained in the trade building new homes, as well as beautifying many older homes. Jamie's enduring legacy is best summed up by a certificate given to him by the Village in 1982, "As a Token of Esteem for Particularly Dedicated Efforts on Behalf of the Village, Which Efforts Have Made Scottsville a Better Place to Live." Jamie was a unique soul, exasperating at times, but always full of fire, passion, compassion, and love. If you came to the door, and you could get past his wife, he would give you the shirt off his back. Jamie was blessed to have many wonderful friends in Upstate New York and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida and will be sorely missed by many.
