Obituary of Lillian Stavrevsky

Obituary of Lillian Stavrevsky LILLIAN “STREB” STAVREVSKY February 3, 1933 - April 3, 2018 Lillian “Streb” Stavrevsky was born in Rochester NY to Macedonian immigrants, Dorothy and Naum Stavrevsky, on February 3, 1933. As a child growing up in downtown Rochester, she was vivacious, inquisitive, filled with energetic activity and often comic adventures; known to leap from her second story bedroom window over a sidewalk to the roof of the detached garage and then on to the street, her mother noted: “once she started walking, I never saw her again.” After graduation from Monroe High School she earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Brockport State Teachers College. Her love for the students, faculty, and history of Franklin High School led her to devote an entire career of teaching to that single institution. She excelled at teaching tennis and coaching the school’s cheerleaders. In 1964 she was a founding parishioner and then a faithful communicant of Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church where her brother, Father Cyril, was rector from 1979-2003 and where her nephew, Father Ken, is currently the rector. An avid and accomplished team bowler, she was always a social catalyst with her quick wit, infamous one-liners, and hilarious stories. Students and friends always enjoyed, and will never forget, encounters with “Miss Streb.” Whether teaching, entertaining, or enjoying her summer cottage on Canandaigua Lake, she was a warm and gracious friend of great loyalty and hospitality. Her infectious laugh and ability to bring forth laughter from others was truly a precious gift that will be greatly missed. May her memory be eternal!
