Obituary of Joan Reed Buttler
Pittsford, NY: April 26, 2018, at age 85, died peacefully after a series of medical episodes. Joan was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Larry (2015).

Joan Mary Reed was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Kingston, PA, with her twin brother, Hale (d. 2013), to Samuel and Mary Reed. She spent her girlhood in her grandfather's Byzantine parish in Kingston and youth in West Hartford, CT, graduating from Hall High School in 1950. In 1954, she graduated from the University of Maine where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was named an "All Maine Woman." After graduation, she worked at the Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford where she met Larry and married in 1955. They raised their daughters in Massachusetts and Connecticut before moving to Pittsford in 1983. Throughout her life she was a woman of deep faith, an athlete and a sports enthusiast. She was a member of St. Louis Church, Pittsford.
Home was Joan's haven, whether it was a house where she and Larry lived, or a dollhouse of miniatures where her love of family and her imagination were well-expressed. She was a creative and talented seamstress, quilter, and puzzle-solver. Whether the puzzle was a jigsaw or helping her children, grandchildren, or friends with decisions or dilemmas, Joan was a master listener, giving straightforward advice and caring guidance and strength. She loved to plan adventures, big and small, that all would partake in and enjoy.
Joan's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1130 Webster Rd., Webster (on the corner of Rt. 250 and State Rd.).
