Don and I were fellow mall walkers and church parishioners. He started walking Mall in 1986. We walked many “laps” together. I walked faster than Don, he would apologetically proclaim “You know you don’t have to walk with me, I can walk alone!” My constant response: “Don, I don’t do anything I don’t want to do!” We talked about everything: God, our Church, family, current events; Don always had a sharp, focused mind and a great sense of humor.
When two other walkers joined us, we had over 350 years of life enjoying each other’s company. Mall walkers are a very close community; someone missing for a day or two, people started worrying about them. Card I gave Don recently had over 50 signatures of walkers and friends. When receiving card, Don exclaimed: “Oh my. I’ll have to study this!”
Don inspired many of us and he continues to walk mall laps with me in my heart and mind. He will be missed by many. God blessed us all by sharing Don with us. To celebrate Don’s welcome to His eternal home, God ordered fireworks in Don’s favorite birthday song key of “A”!
