Obituary of Joanne E. Phillips

Phillips, Joanne Madgel (Ernst) Farmington: Sunday, November 9, 2014, age 83. She born March 13, 1931 in Rochester, NY to parents, Lester and Pauline (Gailey) Ernst. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond C Phillips; son, Gregory (Sally) Phillips; daughters, Karen (Edward) Andross, Lisa (Andrew) Spittal, Wendy (Anthony) Rayner, Jennifer (Steven) Welch, Martha (Jeffrey) Vickery; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Bryant; brother-in-law, John (Suzanne) Phillips; sister-in-law Arlene Phillips. Joanne graduated from Victor Central School in 1949, and earned a B.S. in Home Economics from Cornell University in 1953. As a young wife, she followed her Navy pilot husband to bases far and wide, until settling in Farmington where she dedicated her life to raising her large family. She volunteered countless hours as a 4-H leader and to the Cooperative Extension Service, and was an active member of the Farmington United Methodist Church for many years. Music was an important part of Joanne's life, and she loved to share its joy and beauty. A very special thank you to the staff of the M. M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, Canandaigua for their wonderful and compassionate care. A Memorial service celebrating Joanne's life will be held Tuesday, November 25th at 1 pm at Farmington United Methodist Church. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joanne may be made to the Farmington United Methodist Church or to the Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
