Obituary of Priscilla Bartlett Sax

Sax, Priscilla B. Priscilla Bartlett Sax passed from this life on October 24, 2010 at the Episcopal Life Senior Church Home in Rochester New York. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Sax Seaman of Harpster, Idaho, Cynthia Sax of La Grange, Illinois, and Nancy Sax and her husband Richard Malehorn of Victor, New York as well as her five grandchildren, Kevin and Brian Malehorn, Kendall Sax-Stevens, Alder and Nathaniel Seaman, her brother-in-law John L. Griffin, and her nieces Sarah Bollman and Martha Stanton. She is predeceased by her parents Helen and James Bartlett and her sister Susan Bartlett Griffin. "Pribar" as she was known to her family and many friends, was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania on February12, 1930. She received her B.A. in 1952 from the University of Rochester and continued to be involved in her alumni organization. She went on to complete a long and meaningful career first as a pioneer in special education for the Pittsford Central School District and then as a college and career advisor at Mendon High School. In addition, she was president of the Retired Teachers Association in Pittsford for two years. Pribar dedicated her life to elevating others' lives. She is loved for her sound advice and was a role model to everyone who knew her. She was well-spoken and a story-teller extraordinaire; she was very "matter-of-fact" and never boasted or bragged about her accomplishments. She will be remembered as smiling and upbeat, as a wonderful and involved grandmother and a caring mother. Pribar loved to travel, visiting her eldest daughter in Alaska many times as well as making a number of Elderhostel trips to places as varied as Australia and New Zealand, England and Scotland, Massachusetts, and the Southwest, usually with her dear friend and former college room-mate, Natalie Wilcox. She enjoyed bird watching and whale watching and had a passion for flying, whether it was in hot air balloons, in gliders at Harris Hill in Elmira, in helicopters or in small planes. She also enjoyed performances by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Geva Theatre and was very actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Pribar's friends are invited to join her family in a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church at 36 South Main Street in Pittsford on December 29, 2010 at 11 am. directly followed by a celebration of her life and lunch buffet at Woodcliff Hotel at 199 Woodcliff Drive in Fairport. On December 30th, her ashes will be interred at Grove Cemetary in Bath, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association at alz.org.
