Prairie, Lyle Anthony
Lyle Anthony Prairie, 74 of Victor, NY, formerly of Fort Covington, NY died Saturday at the Gardens in Canandaigua. Lyle was born January 8, 1938 in Malone, NY and grew up in Belmont. He graduated from St. Joseph's Academy where he was an excellent student, played Basketball and excelled in baseball as a pitcher and infielder. He went to Albany Business School and worked as a guard on the St. Lawrence Seaway as a young man. Lyle married Hedy LaMountain on August 28, 1965. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company for 34 years retiring at the age of 56. Lyle was an avid sports fan and enjoyed deer hunting. he coached his sons baseball teams and even took a stint as a hockey coach despite being unable to skate. Although he was a dedicated Cleveland Indians fan, he also enjoyed watching the Yankees and Mets on television. Later in life he developed a new passion for bingo and Wii bowling. Lyle always had a smile for everyone and was willing to participate in all the activities offered at the Gardens nursing home. Lyle was a gentle soul, a true gentleman, and very much appreciated all of the loving and compassionate care he received from the wonderful caregivers at the Gardens of Thompson Healthcare in Canandaigua.
Lyle was predeceased by his daughter, Lynn Marie Prairie. Surviving Lyle are his wife, Hedy of Victor; sons, Michael Prairie of Buffalo, Lyle (Beth) Prairie of Pittsford; granddaughter, Katie nieces, nephews, a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law
Friends may call Wednesday evening 7-9 at Cappiello-McKenzie & Cosgrove Funeral Home, Chateaugay Street, Fort Covington. Lyle's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 am at St. Mary's Church, Fort Covington. Interment, Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone.
