Thank you everyone for coming out to celebrate the life of our grandfather. We could talk about his life and the great man he was all day, but we are going to try to keep it short. Anyone who knew our grandfather knew he was always building things.
While we have only known him as our grandfather over the last 3 decades, he built a reputation as a staple in the Victor community long before that.
He helped to build Victor, serving as a contractor on many houses and completing finish carpentry on countless more. In addition to his work physically building Victor, he was also dedicated to our community, devoting his time and energy to our town. Serving on the school board for 33 years where he left a lasting imprint on Victor Schools and his fellow board members. As someone told us yesterday, "he was Victor."
He was a blue devil through and through. From his own time on the court to his time on the sidelines providing quality control and gentle suggestions to any ref that didn't cut it. Even if it was one of his best friends. He came to all of the games to cheer on Victor, whether one of his kids or grandkids was playing or not - everyone in Victor can remember him there to cheer on the blue devils.
He also built a relationship with God. His strong faith became a catholic one after he met our Irish Catholic grandmother. He was an active member in this church, from being a founding and active member of the local Knights of Columbus chapter to ushering every week and various carpentry jobs you see around us. He built this very podium we speak from today.
He instilled the values of the catholic faith in the family he built. He raised 5 children and was a good good father. Involved in every aspect, protective, and loving - he was there for his kids no matter what. He loved his family and always put family first. That love extended to all the cousins, siblings, and grandchildren - which always shined through at the yearly Christmas eve party when he hosted and brought the whole family together.
That family wasn't built alone. As everyone knows, in high school he met the love of his life. After many square dances and adventures around Victor, they got married and built quite the life together over the next 62 years. His love for grandma is inspiring and I think we all hope to be lucky enough to have a marriage and love that comes anywhere close to theirs, as well as their ability to communicate seamlessly from opposite ends of the house.
We were lucky enough to grow up spending endless hours in houses that he built, both at his house and our childhood home, ultimately, he helped build all of us. We all learned so much from him. He taught us how to work hard, to have a sense of humor, to lead a family focused life, to value education, that if you eat the charred black skin on your hot dog cooked just how he liked it, it would put hair on your chest. (just what a girl always wanted). To be tough and rub it off, never give up your competitive spirit, and that any car was not complete without a stripe on it.
From looking back at photos this week to just looking back on memories, one thing is for sure he was always there - as a jokester, an artist, a carpenter, a friend, a grandfather, a father, and a husband. No matter the role, he always carried himself in a way that commanded respect.
He built a life no one will ever be able to forget.
Any time we said goodbye, he always told us "be good." Grandpa, you taught us what it meant to truly be good. We love you and will keep on being good, and maybe someday be as good as you were. Be good, grandpa.

Maureen and family I am very saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. I have fond memories of some great conversations about sports, of many Christmas Eve dinners and Midnight masses, birthday gatherings, and listening to him, Mrs. Weigert and her "O Kenneth" conversations. He always went out of his way to make me feel very much at home when I visited. He was a great man and will be missed. He has a very special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you as you get through this trying time.

Dear Weigertt family-
When I heard of your husband/dad's passing it made me so sad. We understand your grief and know that your hearts are hurting. We send you all our deepest sympathy. After learning of your dad's passing my mind raced back to the times we would all get together at each others homes. Your dad and mine were very close, like brothers, and our mothers dear friends. We spent many of summers visiting each other and going on road trips (Lake George) making great childhood memories. I remember our dads throwing coins into our cold swimming pool (Webster) in mid May to celebrate the beginning of summer in NY. The water was frigid but the quarters were worth it. They got so much joy out of their shenanigans. Laughing at us kids while flipping burgers. Your home in Victor that your dad built was always so warm and inviting, even the roped off living room with the plastic covering the white furniture called us into that space when our parents weren't looking. : )) Good times. I hope your treasured memories bring you lots of smiles and keep you strong during this time and going forward. Our family just loved your dad, "Mr. Weigert". Over the years I have associate with your dad . . . plaid shorts, cigar with cocktail, and your old family station wagon. Our family will never forget your family back in the day . . . the good old days of the 1970's. Your dad touched our families life in a jovial and loving way. Big hug to each one of you! Maureen (the other Maureen) and Shin + family
