Werner Liniger
Our family is sad to announce that our beloved Werner Liniger passed away on May 17, 2017 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his sisters, Hedi and Lotti. He is survived by his wife, Margrit; children, Eric (Lori) Liniger, Stephanie (Bill) Page; grandchildren, Kurt, Kevin and Kirsten Liniger, Robbie, Stephen and Melissa Page; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends both in the United States and Switzerland.
Werner Liniger was born in 1927 in a small farm village in Tschugg, Switzerland. He lived in the schoolhouse where his mother and father were both teachers. Werner studied math and physics at the Swiss Institute of Technology and graduated in 1951. He graduated from the University of Lausanne in 1955 with his PhD in mathematics, with his thesis focusing on differential equations.
In 1956, Werner married Margrit Adlung, and they immigrated together to the United States. He worked at Remington Rand with the inventor of the first computer, the Univac. In 1959, he then joined the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights NY and published numerous papers in the field of differential equations. He lived in Westchester County for a total of 40 years, where he was a loving father to his son and daughter, Eric and Stephanie. He then retired to Victor, New York in 2000. With complications of end-stage Alzheimer’s disease, Werner passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2017.
Family and friends are invited to call at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services of Victor (Formerly Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home) 301 West Main Street / Victor, NY on SATURDAY (June 10, 2017) from 4:00 – 5:30 PM; where at 6:00 PM his memorial service will be celebrated. Interment Private
