Obituary of Geraldine McClurg
Geraldine "Gerry" McClurg (née DeMay)
Geraldine “Gerry” McClurg (née DeMay) died peacefully surrounded by her devoted family on Monday, April 6, 2015 at House of John in Clifton Springs, NY at the age of 81. Gerry is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard McClurg; daughters, Kathleen Dudarchik, Carol (Dave) Rourke, Colleen (Keith) Horan; grandchildren, Jessica, Lindsay (Matt), Brittany, Chelsea, Noelle and Connor; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; cousins, nieces and nephews. Gerry was born on February 9, 1934 in Canandaigua, NY to Edith (VanLare) and Irving DeMay. She graduated from Geneseo in 1955 with a teaching degree and married Dick in 1954. After moving to Farmington, she worked for one year as a full-time second grade teacher at Palmyra-Macedon Central School and continued to serve as a well-loved and highly respected substitute teacher in that district for 30 years. She also served as Sunday School teacher at Farmington Friends for over 25 years. She loved teaching as was demonstrated by the enthusiasm and energy she brought to each classroom experience, and her continued curiosity and interest in the details of her loved ones' education. Gerry was devoted to and sacrificed all for her family and was a constant champion for the underdog. She enjoyed sports and music, especially when her family was involved. She worked alongside her husband and parents on their dairy farm for more than 30 years.
A Memorial Service, officiated by Margaret Webb, is scheduled for Sunday, May 24th at 2 o'clock at Farmington Friends Church, Farmington with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerry’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to House of John at 14 Spring Street, Clifton Springs, NY or Farmington Friends at 187 County Road 8, Farmington, NY 14425.
