Olga Janet Castellano

Obituary of Olga Janet Castellano

Castellano, Olga Janet Victor: Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at age 82. She is predeceased by her former husband, Tony in 1983; daughter, Patricia in 2011. Janet is survived by son, Timothy (Marian) Castellano; grandchildren, Richard (Allison) Hirschmann, James Taylor; Nicole (Jim Hilligus) Taylor; great-grandchildren, Hali, Hannah, Gavin, James, Gabriel, and Lilly. Olga Janet Castellano was the youngest child of Julius and Mary Balogh. After her father served in WWI, Julius brought Mary and Janet's older siblings, Giselle and Julius, from Hungary. They settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That was where Janet was born. They moved to Brooklyn when Janet was a teenager. Then eventually settled in Floral Park on Long Island. When Janet was a young mother, the family retreated to the summer place up in Mashintuck Mountain in Connecticut. All the assorted extended family members came and went during the long hot and lazy summer days. Many happy memories were sewn and stitched up on that mountain. Janet met Anthony Victor Castellano while living in Brooklyn and got married on November 21, 1954. They had 2 children, Patricia and Timothy. She made friends wherever she went. She worked as a secretary for companies such as Ideal Toy, Gallo Wine, Doubleday and Adelphi University. Janet loved oil painting, her cat and gardening. She never forget a family member's birthday without a card or hand-made gift and she insisted the family remain a family. Although she lived in California twice from 1992-1999 and from 2011 until her death, she never lost her Brooklyn accent and her resentment for Los Angeles stealing her beloved Brooklyn Dodgers in 1957.
