Obituary of Gordon L. Wilson

Wilson, Gordon L. "Gordie" Canandaigua: Passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at age 95. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Hatz Wilson in 1999; parents, George and Eliza Wilson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold (Delores) Wilson, Jack Wilson, William and Margaret Wilson. Gordon enjoyed a large family and is survived by his children, Robert (Beverly) Wilson and June Elizabeth Fisher; seven grandchildren, John (Sue) Wilson, Richard Wilson (Rod), Joan (Scott) Hathorn, Andrew Wilson, Thomas (Dianna) Wilson, Christopher (Geriann) Fisher, Elizabeth (Douglas) Druzbik; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister, Grace Flugel; sister-in-law, Marjorie Wilson; cousins, James (Dorothy) Smooker; nieces and nephews. Purchasing his first business at age 20, Mr. Wilson was the owner and operator Wilson's Markets for over fifty years in Rochester, NY. His keen sense of business combined with his unique ability to form friendships brought him success and happiness. He shared these gifts with others through a life of generosity toward family, friends, business associates and acquaintances. Many were recipients of his acts of kindness unto the very end of his life. Gordon and Elizabeth were avid fans of the Rochester Americans, loved dancing, swimming, boating, water skiing and entertaining at their home on Canandaigua Lake. Gordie had a passion for fast boats, new cars and construction projects of any kind. Friends are invited to call from 7-9 on Monday evening, August 3rd at Lucey-VanVoorhis Funeral Home, 301 West Main Street, Victor where services will begin Tuesday morning, August 4th at 10:30 followed by interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rochester.
