Obituary of Richard Harrison Welles

Richard was born in Holyoke Massachusetts to Harrison G. and Gertrude B. Welles on May 26, 1929. He was predeceased in death by Gertrude and Harrison Welles, sisters Dorothy, Marjorie, Barbara, and brother Donald. Richard is survived by his loving wife Mary, and much loved by his children, Nancy (Robert) Ford, Steven   (Judith) Welles, Thomas (Jackie Schild) Welles and Catherine (Tim) Welch.  Seven Grandchildren: Jennifer Mundt, and Kevin Mundt, Caroline Welles, Christine Thiessen, Matthew Welles, Colin and Shane Welch. One great-grand daughter Evelyn Rose Thiessen. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Richard was a graduate of South Hadley High School in Massachusetts. He served in Korea and earned the Combat Infantry Badge of which he was most proud but never spoke about.  Richard was a long time resident of Henrietta. He was an member of The Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance Corp. when they were located on E. Henrietta Road. He was an avid golfer and volunteered at the LPGA as a marshal from 1976-2000.  

Richard met Mary when they were working at the Mirror Aluminum Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  After 25 years at Mirror, he went into business for himself as a manufacturer’s representative.  Richard knew every kitchen gadget and appliance on the shelves of the stores he served across the state.  Richard was a kind and caring person to everyone he knew.  In his later years, he showed strength, determination and stoicism despite his health issues. 

The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 1 PM to 3 PM and a Mass of Christian will be held at ST. Louis Church, 64 South Main Street Pittsford, NY 14534 at 11am Monday January 7th Burial to follow, by procession, at White Haven Memorial Park.

Many thanks to the nurses of the U of R Home Care Visiting Nurse Hospice who cared for Richard in his final months. Special Thank you to care givers Gloria and Julie for the loving care they showed our family in our time of need.
