Obituary of Julie Anne Beckley

BRIGHTON - Julie Anne Beckley, surrounded by her family, died peacefully at home on January 30, 2019 at 64 years of age.

Born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Julie studied Urban and Regional Planning at Michigan State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976,  a Master of Public Administration at the University of South Carolina in 1981,  and additionally earned a certificate of advanced study in Gerontology, 1982. Her well-respected career focused on planning programs to result in the improvement of peoples’ lives related to housing, neighborhood development, aging, eldercare, and nutrition in and around the cities of Columbia, SC, Washington DC, Boston, NYC, and Rochester, NY. In addition, Julie was adjunct faculty at Midlands Technical College, Columbia, SC teaching in the Gerontology Department during her years of employment in South Carolina.

Julie enjoyed the company of and relationships with her wide circle of devoted friends, neighbors in Home Acres, and those she met in the course of her numerous volunteer activities. Her life was full and she was deeply loved.

The family wishes to thank her “acquired” family members at Pluta Cancer Center and especially Dr. Brian Yirinec, Michelle Miller, NP; very special people who walked along with Julie as her life’s journey included the years of working through the challenges and side effects of cancer. The support in handling death and grief, from amazing people the family met through Lifetime Care Hospice and Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, will forever be deeply appreciated.

She is survived by her siblings, sister Jane Lehmann,  brothers Ross Beckley (Jodie), Bruce Beckley, brother-in-law Michael Lehmann, nieces Laura Beckley (James Harris), Katie Beckley, and nephews Adam Lehmann (Lindsay), Taylor Lehmann (Caron), Zachary Lehmann (Nicole), and Graham Beckley. Julie’s beloved family included grandnieces Rowan Lehmann, Ava Lehmann and grandnephews Clayton Lehmann, Welles Lehmann, Gavin Lehmann, and Henry Lehmann. She is predeceased by her mother, Joan Margaret Beckley McGuigan, and adored friend Eleanor Rosenfield.

In the spring, family and friends will gather to reflect upon and celebrate Julie's inspirational life. She will be forever remembered as a person of tremendous strength, resilience, compassion, generosity, and loyalty.
